Parent Activities

Children's Center staff memberA parent orientation meeting is held before a child begins the program. Here, parents will meet the staff, review the program services and activities, and share information about their child.

Parent Participation

The Humboldt Children's Center is a parent participation program. We believe that it is essential for the education of children that home and school work together. Through this participation children see their parents actually working with their school and parents and staff work together to support mutual goals. Participation requirements are 9 hours per semester per family (6 hrs during the summer). A wide variety of tasks are available to meet this including actual participation in the child's classroom, playground construction projects, jobs that can be done at home, attendance at monthly Parent Advisory Committee meetings, assisting with fundraising activities, etc

Parent Activities

A parent and child do an activity togetherWe offer parent-staff social and educational activities throughout the year. In addition, all parents are encouraged to attend and participate in monthly Parent Advisory Committee meetings. This elected parent forum is responsible for reviewing center policy and planning parent activities. Each semester a fundraising activity is planned and every family is asked to participate. The money raised provides supplies and equipment to enrich the children's education.

Head Start Partnership

We offer additional family support services for eligible families. This is provided through a partnership with Head Start. Parents have access to a part-time family worker who assists them in securing and funding needed services in the community such as legal aid, dental care, car seats, and other services depending on the family's particular need.
